  1. Sura: 6 - al-An`aam (The Cattle) Ayat: 163

[YOUSAF ALI] No partner hath He: this am I commanded, and I am the first of those who bow to His will.

[ PICKTHAL ] He hath no partner. This am I commanded, and I am first of those who surrender (unto Him).

[ SHAKIR ] No associate has He; and this am I commanded, and I am the first of those who submit.

  2. Sura: 18 - al-Kahf (The Cave) Ayat: 26

[YOUSAF ALI] Say: "Allah knows best how long they stayed: with Him is (the knowledge of) the secrets of the heavens and the earth: how clearly He sees, how finely He hears (everything)! They have no protector other than Him; nor does He share His Command with any person whatsoever.

[ PICKTHAL ] Say: Allah is Best Aware how long they tarried. His is the Invisible of the heavens and the earth. How clear of sight is He and keen of hearing! They have no protecting friend beside Him, and He maketh none to share in His government.

[ SHAKIR ] Say: Allah knows best how long they remained; to Him are (known) the unseen things of the heavens and the earth; how clear His sight and how clear His hearing! There is none to be a guardian for them besides Him, and He does not make any one His associate in His Judgment.

  3. Sura: 20 - Taa-haa (Taa-haa) Ayat: 13

[YOUSAF ALI] "I have chosen thee: listen, then, to the inspiration (sent to thee).

[ PICKTHAL ] And I have chosen thee, so hearken unto that which is inspired.

[ SHAKIR ] And I have chosen you, so listen to what is revealed:

  4. Sura: 20 - Taa-haa (Taa-haa) Ayat: 114

[YOUSAF ALI] High above all is Allah, the King, the Truth! Be not in haste with the Qur'an before its revelation to thee is completed, but say, "O my Lord! advance me in knowledge."

[ PICKTHAL ] Then exalted be Allah, the True King! And hasten not (O Muhammad) with the Qur'an ere its revelation hath been perfected unto thee, and say: My Lord! Increase me in knowledge.

[ SHAKIR ] Supremely exalted is therefore Allah, the King, the Truth, and do not make haste with the Quran before its revelation is made complete to you and say: O my Lord ! increase me in knowledge.

  5. Sura: 34 - Saba (Sheba) Ayat: 50

[YOUSAF ALI] Say: "If I am astray, I only stray to the loss of my own soul: but if I receive guidance, it is because of the inspiration of my Lord to me: it is He Who hears all things, and is (ever) near."

[ PICKTHAL ] Say: If I err, I err only to my own loss, and if I am rightly guided it is because of that which my Lord hath revealed unto me. Lo! He is Hearer, Nigh.

[ SHAKIR ] Say: If I err, I err only against my own soul, and if I follow a right direction, it ?s because of what my Lord reveals to me; surely He is Hearing, Nigh.

  6. Sura: 35 - Faatir (The Originator) Ayat: 22

[YOUSAF ALI] Nor are alike those that are living and those that are dead. Allah can make any that He wills to hear; but thou canst not make those to hear who are (buried) in graves.

[ PICKTHAL ] Nor are the living equal with the dead. Lo! Allah maketh whom He will to hear. Thou canst not reach those who are in the graves.

[ SHAKIR ] Neither are the living and the dead alike. Surely Allah makes whom He pleases hear, and you cannot make those hear who are m the graves.

  7. Sura: 37 - as-Saaffaat (Those drawn up in Ranks) From Ayat: 6 to 10

[YOUSAF ALI] We have indeed decked the lower heaven with beauty (in) the stars,-

    [ PICKTHAL ] Lo! We have adorned the lowest heaven with an ornament, the planets;

[ SHAKIR ] Surely We have adorned the nearest heaven with an adornment, the stars,

  8. Sura: 37 - as-Saaffaat (Those drawn up in Ranks) From Ayat: 6 to 10

[YOUSAF ALI] (For beauty) and for guard against all obstinate rebellious evil spirits,

[ PICKTHAL ] With security from every froward devil.

[ SHAKIR ] And (there is) a safeguard against every rebellious Shaitan.

  9. Sura: 37 - as-Saaffaat (Those drawn up in Ranks) From Ayat: 6 to 10

[YOUSAF ALI] (So) they should not strain their ears in the direction of the Exalted Assembly but be cast away from every side,

[ PICKTHAL ] They cannot listen to the Highest Chiefs for they are pelted from every side,

[ SHAKIR ] They cannot listen to the exalted assembly and they are thrown at from every side,

  10. Sura: 37 - as-Saaffaat (Those drawn up in Ranks) From Ayat: 6 to 10

[YOUSAF ALI] Repulsed, for they are under a perpetual penalty,

    [ PICKTHAL ] Outcast, and theirs is a perpetual torment;

[ SHAKIR ] Being driven off, and for them is a perpetual chastisement,

  11. Sura: 37 - as-Saaffaat (Those drawn up in Ranks) From Ayat: 6 to 10

[YOUSAF ALI] Except such as snatch away something by stealth, and they are pursued by a flaming fire, of piercing brightness.

[ PICKTHAL ] Save him who snatcheth a fragment, and there pursueth him a piercing flame.

[ SHAKIR ] Except him who snatches off but once, then there follows him a brightly shining flame.

  12. Sura: 42 - ash-Shura (Consultation) Ayat: 51

[YOUSAF ALI] It is not fitting for a man that Allah should speak to him except by inspiration, or from behind a veil, or by the sending of a messenger to reveal, with Allah's permission, what Allah wills: for He is Most High, Most Wise.

[ PICKTHAL ] And it was not (vouchsafed) to any mortal that Allah should speak to him unless (it be) by revelation or from behind a veil, or (that) He sendeth a messenger to reveal what He will by His leave. Lo! He is Exalted, Wise.

[ SHAKIR ] And it is not for any mortal that Allah should speak to them, they could not bear to hear and they did not see.

  13. Sura: 52 - at-Tur (The Mount) Ayat: 38

[YOUSAF ALI] Or have they a ladder, by which they can (climb up to heaven and) listen (to its secrets)? Then let (such a) listener of theirs produce a manifest proof.

[ PICKTHAL ] Or have they any stairway (unto heaven) by means of which they overhear (decrees). Then let their listener produce some warrant manifest!

[ SHAKIR ] Or have they the means by which they listen? Then let their listener bring a clear authority.

  14. Sura: 72 - al-Jinn (the Jinn) From Ayat: 8 to 9

[YOUSAF ALI] 'And we pried into the secrets of heaven; but we found it filled with stern guards and flaming fires.

[ PICKTHAL ] And (the Jinn who had listened to the Qur'an said): We had sought the heaven but had found it filled with strong warders and meteors.

[ SHAKIR ] And that we sought to reach heaven, but we found it filled with strong guards and flaming stars.

  15. Sura: 72 - al-Jinn (the Jinn) From Ayat: 8 to 9

[YOUSAF ALI] 'We used, indeed, to sit there in (hidden) stations, to (steal) a hearing; but any who listen now will find a flaming fire watching him in ambush.

    [ PICKTHAL ] And we used to sit on places (high) therein to listen. But he who listeneth now findeth a flame in wait for him;

[ SHAKIR ] And that we used to sit in some of the sitting-places thereof to steal a hearing, but he who would (try to) listen now would find a flame lying in wait for him:
