  1. Sura: 6 - al-An`aam (The Cattle) Ayat: 152

[YOUSAF ALI] And come not nigh to the orphan's property, except to improve it, until he attain the age of full strength; give measure and weight with (full) justice;- no burden do We place on any soul, but that which it can bear;- whenever ye speak, speak justly, even if a near relative is concerned; and fulfil the covenant of Allah: thus doth He command you, that ye may remember.

[ PICKTHAL ] And approach not the wealth of the orphan save with that which is better, till he reach maturity. Give full measure and full weight, in justice. We task not any soul beyond its scope. And if ye give your word, do justice thereunto, even though it be (against) a kinsman; and fulfil the covenant of Allah. This He commandeth you that haply ye may remember.

    [ SHAKIR ] And do not approach the property of the orphan except in the best manner until he attains his maturity, and give full measure and weight with justice-- We do not impose on any soul a duty except to the extent of its ability; and when you speak, then be just though it be (against) a relative, and fulfill Allah's covenant; this He has enjoined you with that you may be mindful;

  2. Sura: 7 - al-A`araaf (The Heights) From Ayat: 8 to 9

[YOUSAF ALI] The balance that day will be true (to nicety): those whose scale (of good) will be heavy, will prosper:

[ PICKTHAL ] The weighing on that day is the true (weighing). As for those whose scale is heavy, they are the successful.

    [ SHAKIR ] And the measuring out on that day will be just; then as for him whose measure (of good deeds) is heavy, those are they who shall be successful;

  3. Sura: 7 - al-A`araaf (The Heights) From Ayat: 8 to 9

[YOUSAF ALI] Those whose scale will be light, will be their souls in perdition, for that they wrongfully treated Our signs.

[ PICKTHAL ] And as for those whose scale is light: those are they who lose their souls because they used to wrong Our revelations.

[ SHAKIR ] And as for him whose measure (of good deeds) is light those are they who have made their souls suffer loss because they disbelieved in Our communications.

  4. Sura: 7 - al-A`araaf (The Heights) Ayat: 85

    (85

[YOUSAF ALI] To the Madyan people We sent Shu'aib, one of their own brethren: he said: "O my people! worship Allah; Ye have no other god but Him. Now hath come unto you a clear (Sign) from your Lord! Give just measure and weight, nor withhold from the people the things that are their due; and do no mischief on the earth after it has been set in order: that will be best for you, if ye have Faith.

[ PICKTHAL ] And unto Midian (We sent) their brother, Shu'eyb. He said: O my people! Serve Allah. Ye have no other Allah save Him. Lo! a clear proof hath come unto you from your Lord; so give full measure and full weight and wrong not mankind in their goods, and work not confusion in the earth after the fair ordering thereof. That will be better for you, if ye are believers.

[ SHAKIR ] And to Madyan (We sent) their brother Shu'aib. He said: O my people! serve Allah, you have no god other than Him; clear proof indeed has come to you from your Lord, therefore give full measure and weight and do not diminish to men their things, and do not make mischief in the land after its reform; this is better for you if you are believers:

  5. Sura: 11 - Hud (Hud) From Ayat: 84 to 85

[YOUSAF ALI] To the Madyan People (We sent) Shu'aib, one of their own brethren: he said: "O my people! worship Allah: Ye have no other god but Him. And give not short measure or weight: I see you in prosperity, but I fear for you the penalty of a day that will compass (you) all round.

[ PICKTHAL ] And unto Midian (We sent) their brother Shu'eyb. He said: O my people! Serve Allah. Ye have no other Allah save Him! And give not short measure and short weight. Lo! I see you well-to-do, and lo! I fear for you the doom of a besetting Day.

[ SHAKIR ] And to Madyan (We sent) their brother Shu'aib. He said: O my people! serve Allah, you have no god other than He, and do not give short measure and weight: surely I see you in prosperity and surely I fear for you the punishment of an all-encompassing day.

  6. Sura: 11 - Hud (Hud) From Ayat: 84 to 85

[YOUSAF ALI] "And O my people! give just measure and weight, nor withhold from the people the things that are their due: commit not evil in the land with intent to do mischief.

[ PICKTHAL ] O my people! Give full measure and full weight in justice, and wrong not people in respect of their goods. And do not evil in the earth, causing corruption.

[ SHAKIR ] And, O my people! give full measure and weight fairly, and defraud not men their things, and do not act corruptly in the land, making mischief:

  7. Sura: 21 - al-Anbiyaa (The Prophets) Ayat: 47

[YOUSAF ALI] We shall set up scales of justice for the Day of Judgment, so that not a soul will be dealt with unjustly in the least, and if there be (no more than) the weight of a mustard seed, We will bring it (to account): and enough are We to take account.

[ PICKTHAL ] And We set a just balance for the Day of Resurrection so that no soul is wronged in aught. Though it be of the weight of a grain of mustard seed, We bring it. And We suffice for reckoners.

[ SHAKIR ] And We will set up a just balance on the day of resurrection, so no soul shall be dealt with unjustly in the least; and though there be the weight of a grain of mustard seed, (yet) will We bring it, and sufficient are We to take account.

  8. Sura: 23 - al-Mu'minoon (The Believers) From Ayat: 102 to 103

[YOUSAF ALI] Then those whose balance (of good deeds) is heavy,- they will attain salvation:

[ PICKTHAL ] Then those whose scales are heavy, they are the successful.

[ SHAKIR ] Then as for him whose good deeds are preponderant, these are the successful.

[YOUSAF ALI] But those whose balance is light, will be those who have lost their souls, in Hell will they abide.

[ PICKTHAL ] And those whose scales are light are those who lose their souls, in hell abiding.

[ SHAKIR ] And as for him whose good deeds are light, these are they who shall have lost their souls, abiding in hell

[YOUSAF ALI] It is Allah Who has sent down the Book in Truth, and the Balance (by which to weigh conduct). And what will make thee realise that perhaps the Hour is close at hand?

[ PICKTHAL ] Allah it is Who hath revealed the Scripture with truth, and the Balance. How canst thou know? It may be that the Hour is nigh.

[ SHAKIR ] Allah it is Who revealed the Book with truth, and the balance, and what shall make you know that haply the hour be nigh?

[YOUSAF ALI] And the Firmament has He raised high, and He has set up the Balance (of Justice),

[YOUSAF ALI] So establish weight with justice and fall not short in the balance.
