  1. Sura: 12 - Yusuf (Joseph) From Ayat: 105 to 107

[YOUSAF ALI] And how many Signs in the heavens and the earth do they pass by? Yet they turn (their faces) away from them!

[ PICKTHAL ] How many a portent is there in the heavens and the earth which they pass by with face averted!

[ SHAKIR ] And how many a sign in the heavens and the earth which they pass by, yet they turn aside from it.

  2. Sura: 12 - Yusuf (Joseph) From Ayat: 105 to 107

[YOUSAF ALI] And most of them believe not in Allah without associating (other as partners) with Him!

[ PICKTHAL ] And most of them believe not in Allah except that they attribute partners (unto Him).

[ SHAKIR ] And most of them do not believe in Allah without associating others (with Him).

  3. Sura: 12 - Yusuf (Joseph) From Ayat: 105 to 107

[YOUSAF ALI] Do they then feel secure from the coming against them of the covering veil of the wrath of Allah,- or of the coming against them of the (final) Hour all of a sudden while they perceive not?

[ PICKTHAL ] Deem they themselves secure from the coming on them of a pall of Allah's punishment, or the coming of the Hour suddenly while they are unaware?

[ SHAKIR ] Do they then feel secure that there may come to them an extensive chastisement from Allah or (that) the hour may come to them suddenly while they do not perceive?

  4. Sura: 16 - an-Nahl (The Bee) From Ayat: 3 to 4

[YOUSAF ALI] He has created the heavens and the earth for just ends: Far is He above having the partners they ascribe to Him!

[ PICKTHAL ] He hath created the heavens and the earth with truth. High be He Exalted above all that they associate (with Him).

[ SHAKIR ] He created the heavens and the earth with the truth, highly exalted be He above what they associate (with Him).

  5. Sura: 16 - an-Nahl (The Bee) From Ayat: 3 to 4

[YOUSAF ALI] He has created man from a sperm-drop; and behold this same (man) becomes an open disputer!

[ PICKTHAL ] He hath created man from a drop of fluid, yet behold! he is an open opponent.

[ SHAKIR ] He created man from a small seed and lo! he is an open contender.

  6. Sura: 20 - Taa-haa (Taa-haa) Ayat: 131

[YOUSAF ALI] Nor strain thine eyes in longing for the things We have given for enjoyment to parties of them, the splendour of the life of this world, through which We test them: but the provision of thy Lord is better and more enduring.

[ PICKTHAL ] And strain not thine eyes toward that which We cause some wedded pairs among them to enjoy, the flower of the life of the world, that We may try them thereby. The provision of thy Lord is better and more lasting.

[ SHAKIR ] And do not stretch your eyes after that with which We have provided different classes of them, (of) the splendor of this world's life, that We may thereby try them; and the sustenance (given) by your Lord is better and more abiding.

  7. Sura: 22 - al-Hajj (The Pilgrimage) From Ayat: 45 to 48

[YOUSAF ALI] How many populations have We destroyed, which were given to wrong-doing? They tumbled down on their roofs. And how many wells are lying idle and neglected, and castles lofty and well-built?

[ PICKTHAL ] How many a township have We destroyed while it was sinful, so that it lieth (to this day) in ruins, and (how many) a deserted well and lofty tower!

[ SHAKIR ] So how many a town did We destroy while it was unjust, so it was fallen down upon its roofs, and (how many a) deserted well and palace raised high.

  8. Sura: 22 - al-Hajj (The Pilgrimage) From Ayat: 45 to 48

[YOUSAF ALI] Do they not travel through the land, so that their hearts (and minds) may thus learn wisdom and their ears may thus learn to hear? Truly it is not their eyes that are blind, but their hearts which are in their breasts.

[ PICKTHAL ] Have they not travelled in the land, and have they hearts wherewith to feel and ears wherewith to hear? For indeed it is not the eyes that grow blind, but it is the hearts, which are within the bosoms, that grow blind.

[ SHAKIR ] Have they not travelled in the land so that they should have hearts with which to understand, or ears with which to hear? For surely it is not the eyes that are blind, but blind are the hearts which are in the breasts.

  9. Sura: 22 - al-Hajj (The Pilgrimage) From Ayat: 45 to 48

    (47

[YOUSAF ALI] Yet they ask thee to hasten on the Punishment! But Allah will not fail in His Promise. Verily a Day in the sight of thy Lord is like a thousand years of your reckoning.

[ PICKTHAL ] And they will bid thee hasten on the Doom, and Allah faileth not His promise, but lo! a Day with Allah is as a thousand years of what ye reckon.

[ SHAKIR ] And they ask you to hasten on the punishment, and Allah will by no means fail in His promise, and surely a day with your Lord is as a thousand years of what you number.

  10. Sura: 22 - al-Hajj (The Pilgrimage) From Ayat: 45 to 48

[YOUSAF ALI] And to how many populations did I give respite, which were given to wrong-doing? in the end I punished them. To me is the destination (of all).

[ PICKTHAL ] And how many a township did I suffer long though it was sinful! Then I grasped it. Unto Me is the return.

[ SHAKIR ] And how many a town to which I gave respite while it was unjust, then I overtook it, and to Me is the return.

  11. Sura: 30 - ar-Room (The Romans) From Ayat: 8 to 10

[YOUSAF ALI] Do they not reflect in their own minds? Not but for just ends and for a term appointed, did Allah create the heavens and the earth, and all between them: yet are there truly many among men who deny the meeting with their Lord (at the Resurrection)!

[ PICKTHAL ] Have they not pondered upon themselves? Allah created not the heavens and the earth, and that which is between them, save with truth and for a destined end. But truly many of mankind are disbelievers in the meeting with their Lord.

[ SHAKIR ] Do they not reflect within themselves: Allah did not create the heavens and the earth and what is between them two but with truth, and (for) an appointed term? And most surely most of the people are deniers of the meeting of their Lord.

  12. Sura: 30 - ar-Room (The Romans) From Ayat: 8 to 10

[YOUSAF ALI] Do they not travel through the earth, and see what was the end of those before them? They were superior to them in strength: they tilled the soil and populated it in greater numbers than these have done: there came to them their messengers with Clear (Signs). (Which they rejected, to their own destruction): It was not Allah Who wronged them, but they wronged their own souls.

[ PICKTHAL ] Have they not travelled in the land and seen the nature of the consequence for those who were before them? They were stronger than these in power, and they dug the earth and built upon it more than these have built. Messengers of their own came unto them with clear proofs (of Allah's Sovereignty). Surely Allah wronged them not, but they did wrong themselves.

[ SHAKIR ] Have they not travelled in the earth and seen how was the end of those before them? They were stronger than these in prowess, and dug up the earth, and built on it in greater abundance than these have built on it, and there came to them their messengers with clear arguments; so it was not beseeming for Allah that He should deal with them unjustly, but they dealt unjustly with their own souls.

  13. Sura: 30 - ar-Room (The Romans) From Ayat: 8 to 10

[YOUSAF ALI] In the long run evil in the extreme will be the End of those who do evil; for that they rejected the Signs of Allah, and held them up to ridicule.

[ PICKTHAL ] Then evil was the consequence to those who dealt in evil, because they denied the revelations of Allah and made a mock of them.

[ SHAKIR ] Then evil was the end of those who did evil, because they | rejected the communications of Allah and used to mock them.

  14. Sura: 30 - ar-Room (The Romans) From Ayat: 20 to 24

[YOUSAF ALI] Among His Signs in this, that He created you from dust; and then,- behold, ye are men scattered (far and wide)!

[ PICKTHAL ] And of His signs is this: He created you of dust, and behold you human beings, ranging widely!

[ SHAKIR ] And one of His signs is that He created you from dust, then lo! you are mortals (who) scatter.

  15. Sura: 30 - ar-Room (The Romans) From Ayat: 20 to 24

[YOUSAF ALI] And among His Signs is this, that He created for you mates from among yourselves, that ye may dwell in tranquillity with them, and He has put love and mercy between your (hearts): verily in that are Signs for those who reflect.

[ PICKTHAL ] And of His signs is this: He created for you helpmeets from yourselves that ye might find rest in them, and He ordained between you love and mercy. Lo! herein indeed are portents for folk who reflect.

[ SHAKIR ] And one of His signs is that He created mates for you from yourselves that you may find rest in them, and He put between you love and compassion; most surely there are signs in this for a people who reflect.

  16. Sura: 30 - ar-Room (The Romans) From Ayat: 20 to 24

[YOUSAF ALI] And among His Signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the variations in your languages and your colours: verily in that are Signs for those who know.

[ PICKTHAL ] And of His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the difference of your languages and colours. Lo! herein indeed are portents for men of knowledge.

[ SHAKIR ] And one of His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth and the diversity of your tongues and colors; most surely there are signs in this for the learned.

  17. Sura: 30 - ar-Room (The Romans) From Ayat: 20 to 24

[YOUSAF ALI] And among His Signs is the sleep that ye take by night and by day, and the quest that ye (make for livelihood) out of His Bounty: verily in that are signs for those who hearken.

[ PICKTHAL ] And of His signs is your slumber by night and by day, and your seeking of His bounty. Lo! herein indeed are portents for folk who heed.

[ SHAKIR ] And one of His signs is your sleeping and your seeking of His grace by night and (by) day; most surely there are signs in this for a people who would hear.

  18. Sura: 30 - ar-Room (The Romans) From Ayat: 20 to 24

[YOUSAF ALI] And among His Signs, He shows you the lightning, by way both of fear and of hope, and He sends down rain from the sky and with it gives life to the earth after it is dead: verily in that are Signs for those who are wise.

[ PICKTHAL ] And of His signs is this: He showeth you the lightning for a fear and for a hope, and sendeth down water from the sky, and thereby quickeneth the earth after her death. Lo! herein indeed are portents for folk who understand.

[ SHAKIR ] And one of His signs is that He shows you the lightning for fear and for hope, and sends down water from the clouds then gives life therewith to the earth after its death; most surely there are signs in this for a people who understand

  19. Sura: 45 - al-Jaathiya (Crouching) From Ayat: 21 to 22

[YOUSAF ALI] What! Do those who seek after evil ways think that We shall hold them equal with those who believe and do righteous deeds,- that equal will be their life and their death? Ill is the judgment that they make.

[ PICKTHAL ] Or do those who commit ill-deeds suppose that We shall make them as those who believe and do good works, the same in life and death? Bad is their judgment!

[ SHAKIR ] Nay! do those who have wrought evil deeds think that We will make them like those who believe and do good-- that their life and their death shall be equal? Evil it is that they judge.

  20. Sura: 45 - al-Jaathiya (Crouching) From Ayat: 21 to 22

[YOUSAF ALI] Allah created the heavens and the earth for just ends, and in order that each soul may find the recompense of what it has earned, and none of them be wronged.

[ PICKTHAL ] And Allah hath created the heavens and the earth with truth, and that every soul may be repaid what it hath earned. And they will not be wronged.

[ SHAKIR ] And Allah created the heavens and the earth with truth and that every soul may be rewarded for what it has earned and they shall not be wronged.

  21. Sura: 45 - al-Jaathiya (Crouching) From Ayat: 24 to 26

[YOUSAF ALI] And they say: "What is there but our life in this world? We shall die and we live, and nothing but time can destroy us." But of that they have no knowledge: they merely conjecture:

[ PICKTHAL ] And they say: There is naught but our life of the world; we die and we live, and naught destroyeth us save time; when they have no knowledge whatsoever of (all) that; they do but guess.

[ SHAKIR ] And they say: There is nothing but our life in this world; we live and die and nothing destroys us but time, and they have no knowledge of that; they only conjecture.

  22. Sura: 45 - al-Jaathiya (Crouching) From Ayat: 24 to 26

[YOUSAF ALI] And when Our Clear Signs are rehearsed to them their argument is nothing but this: They say, "Bring (back) our forefathers, if what ye say is true!"

[ PICKTHAL ] And when Our clear revelations are recited unto them their only argument is that they say: Bring (back) our fathers. then, if ye are truthful.

[ SHAKIR ] And when Our clear communications are recited to them, their argument is no other than that they say: Bring our fathers (back) if you are truthful.

  23. Sura: 45 - al-Jaathiya (Crouching) From Ayat: 24 to 26

[YOUSAF ALI] Say: "It is Allah Who gives you life, then gives you death; then He will gather you together for the Day of Judgment about which there is no doubt": But most men do not understand.

[ PICKTHAL ] Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Allah giveth life to you, then causeth you to die, then gathereth you unto the Day of Resurrection whereof there is no doubt. But most of mankind know not.

[ SHAKIR ] Say: Allah gives you life, then He makes you die, then will He gather you to the day of resurrection wherein is no doubt, but most people do not know.

  24. Sura: 57 - al-Hadid (The Iron) From Ayat: 22 to 24

[YOUSAF ALI] No misfortune can happen on earth or in your souls but is recorded in a decree before We bring it into existence: That is truly easy for Allah:

[ PICKTHAL ] Naught of disaster befalleth in the earth or in yourselves but it is in a Book before we bring it into being - Lo! that is easy for Allah -

[ SHAKIR ] No evil befalls on the earth nor in your own souls, but it is in a book before We bring it into existence; surely that is easy to Allah:

  25. Sura: 57 - al-Hadid (The Iron) From Ayat: 22 to 24

[YOUSAF ALI] In order that ye may not despair over matters that pass you by, nor exult over favours bestowed upon you. For Allah loveth not any vainglorious boaster,-

[ PICKTHAL ] That ye grieve not for the sake of that which hath escaped you, nor yet exult because of that which hath been given. Allah loveth not all prideful boasters,

[ SHAKIR ] So that you may not grieve for what has escaped you, nor be exultant at what He has given you; and Allah does not love any arrogant boaster:

  26. Sura: 57 - al-Hadid (The Iron) From Ayat: 22 to 24

[YOUSAF ALI] Such persons as are covetous and commend covetousness to men. And if any turn back (from Allah's Way), verily Allah is Free of all Needs, Worthy of all Praise.

[ PICKTHAL ] Who hoard and who enjoin upon the people avarice. And whosoever turneth away, still Allah is the Absolute, the Owner of Praise.

[ SHAKIR ] Those who are niggardly and enjoin niggardliness on men; and whoever turns back, then surely Allah is He Who is the Selfsufficient, the Praised.
