[YOUSAF ALI] "Do ye build a landmark on every high place to amuse yourselves?

[ PICKTHAL ] Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight?

[ SHAKIR ] Do you build on every height a monument? Vain is it that you do:

  2. Sura: 26 - ash-Shu`araa (The Poets) From Ayat: 128 to 130

[YOUSAF ALI] "And do ye get for yourselves fine buildings in the hope of living therein (for ever)?

[ PICKTHAL ] And seek ye out strongholds, that haply ye may last for ever?

[ SHAKIR ] And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may

  3. Sura: 26 - ash-Shu`araa (The Poets) From Ayat: 128 to 130

[YOUSAF ALI] "And when ye exert your strong hand, do ye do it like men of absolute power?

[ PICKTHAL ] And if ye seize by force, seize ye as tyrants?

    [ SHAKIR ] And when you lay hands (on men) you lay hands (like) tyrants;

  4. Sura: 26 - ash-Shu`araa (The Poets) From Ayat: 146 to 149

[YOUSAF ALI] "Will ye be left secure, in (the enjoyment of) all that ye have here?-

[ PICKTHAL ] Will ye be left secure in that which is here before us,

    [ SHAKIR ] Will you be left secure in what is here;

  5. Sura: 26 - ash-Shu`araa (The Poets) From Ayat: 146 to 149

    فِي جَنَّاتٍ وَعُيُونٍ (147

    انہی باغات اور چشموں میں

    [ SHAKIR ] And you hew houses out of the mountains exultingly;

  8. Sura: 28 - al-Qasas (The Stories) From Ayat: 3 to 4

[YOUSAF ALI] We rehearse to thee some of the story of Moses and Pharaoh in Truth, for people who believe.

[ PICKTHAL ] We narrate unto thee (somewhat) of the story of Moses and Pharaoh with truth, for folk who believe.

[ SHAKIR ] We recite to you from the account of Musa and Firon with truth for people who believe.

  9. Sura: 28 - al-Qasas (The Stories) From Ayat: 3 to 4

[YOUSAF ALI] Truly Pharaoh elated himself in the land and broke up its people into sections, depressing a small group among them: their sons he slew, but he kept alive their females: for he was indeed a maker of mischief.

[ PICKTHAL ] Lo! Pharaoh exalted himself in the earth and made its people castes. A tribe among them he oppressed, killing their sons and sparing their women. Lo! he was of those who work corruption.

[ SHAKIR ] Surely Firon exalted himself in the land and made its people into parties, weakening one party from among them; he slaughtered their sons and let their women live; surely he was one of the mischiefmakers.

  10. Sura: 28 - al-Qasas (The Stories) From Ayat: 38 to 39

[YOUSAF ALI] Pharaoh said: "O Chiefs! no god do I know for you but myself: therefore, O Haman! light me a (kiln to bake bricks) out of clay, and build me a lofty palace, that I may mount up to the god of Moses: but as far as I am concerned, I think (Moses) is a liar!"

[ PICKTHAL ] And Pharaoh said: O chiefs! I know not that ye have a god other than me, so kindle for me (a fire), O Haman, to bake the mud; and set up for me a lofty tower in order that I may survey the god of Moses; and lo! I deem him of the liars.

[ SHAKIR ] And Firon said: O chiefs! I do not know of any god for you besides myself; therefore kindle a fire for me, O Haman, for brick, then prepare for me a lofty building so that I may obtain knowledge of Musa's god, and most surely I think him to be one of the liars.

  11. Sura: 28 - al-Qasas (The Stories) From Ayat: 38 to 39

[YOUSAF ALI] And he was arrogant and insolent in the land, beyond reason,- He and his hosts: they thought that they would not have to return to Us!

[ PICKTHAL ] And he and his hosts were haughty in the land without right, and deemed that they would never be brought back to Us.

[ SHAKIR ] And he was unjustly proud in the land, he and his hosts, and they deemed that they would not be brought back to Us.

  12. Sura: 43 - az-Zukhruf (Ornaments of gold) From Ayat: 51 to 52

[YOUSAF ALI] And Pharaoh proclaimed among his people, saying: "O my people! Does not the dominion of Egypt belong to me, (witness) these streams flowing underneath my (palace)? What! see ye not then?

[ PICKTHAL ] And Pharaoh caused a proclamation to be made among his people saying: O my people! Is not mine the sovereignty of Egypt and these rivers flowing under me? Can ye not then discern?

[ SHAKIR ] And Firon proclaimed amongst his people: O my people! is not the kingdom of Egypt mine? And these rivers flow beneath me; do you not then see?

  13. Sura: 43 - az-Zukhruf (Ornaments of gold) From Ayat: 51 to 52

[YOUSAF ALI] "Am I not better than this (Moses), who is a contemptible wretch and can scarcely express himself clearly?

[ PICKTHAL ] I am surely better than this fellow, who is despicable and can hardly make (his meaning) plain!

[ SHAKIR ] Nay! I am better than this fellow, who is contemptible, and who can hardly speak distinctly:

  14. Sura: 43 - az-Zukhruf (Ornaments of gold) Ayat: 54

[YOUSAF ALI] Thus did he make fools of his people, and they obeyed him: truly were they a people rebellious (against Allah).

[ PICKTHAL ] Thus he persuaded his people to make light (of Moses), and they obeyed him. Lo! they were a wanton folk.

[ SHAKIR ] So he incited his people to levity and they obeyed him: surely they were a transgressing people.
