اے رسولؐ! اس وقت کو یاد کرو جب تمہارے پروردگار نے ملائکہ سے کہا کہ میں زمین میں اپنا خلیفہ بنانے والا ہوں اور انہوں نے کہا کہ کیا اسے بنائے گا جو زمین میں فساد برپا کرے اور خونریزی کرے جب کہ ہم تیری تسبیح اور تقدیس کرتے ہیں تو ارشاد ہوا کہ میں وہ جانتا ہوں جو تم نہیں جانتے ہو
[YOUSAF ALI] Behold, thy Lord said to the angels: "I will create a vicegerent on earth." They said: "Wilt Thou place therein one who will make mischief therein and shed blood?- whilst we do celebrate Thy praises and glorify Thy holy (name)?" He said: "I know what ye know not."
[ PICKTHAL ] And when thy Lord said unto the angels: Lo! I am about to place a viceroy in the earth, they said: Wilt thou place therein one who will do harm therein and will shed blood, while we, we hymn Thy praise and sanctify Thee? He said: Surely I know that which ye know not.
[ SHAKIR ] And when your Lord said to the angels, I am going to place in the earth a khalif, they said: What! wilt Thou place in it such as shall make mischief in it and shed blood, and we celebrate Thy praise and extol Thy holiness? He said: Surely I know what you do not know.

وَعَلَّمَ آدَمَ الْأَسْمَاءَ كُلَّهَا ثُمَّ عَرَضَهُمْ عَلَى الْمَلَائِكَةِ فَقَالَ أَنْبِئُونِي بِأَسْمَاءِ هَٰؤُلَاءِ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ (31
اور خدا نے آدم علیہ السّلام کو تمام اسماء کی تعلیم دی اور پھر ان سب کو ملائکہ کے سامنے پیش کر کے فرمایا کہ ذرا تم ان سب کے نام تو بتاؤ اگر تم اپنے خیالِ استحقاق میں سچّے ہو
[YOUSAF ALI] And He taught Adam the names of all things; then He placed them before the angels, and said: "Tell me the names of these if ye are right."
[ PICKTHAL ] And He taught Adam all the names, then showed them to the angels, saying: Inform Me of the names of these, if ye are truthful.
[ SHAKIR ] And He taught Adam all the names, then presented them to the angels; then He said: Tell me the names of those if you are right.

قَالُوا سُبْحَانَكَ لَا عِلْمَ لَنَا إِلَّا مَا عَلَّمْتَنَا ۖ إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْعَلِيمُ الْحَكِيمُ (32
ملائکہ نے عرض کی کہ ہم تو اتنا ہی جانتے ہیں جتنا تو نے بتایا ہے کہ تو صاحبِ علم بھی ہے اور صاحبِ حکمت بھی
[YOUSAF ALI] They said: "Glory to Thee, of knowledge We have none, save what Thou Hast taught us: In truth it is Thou Who art perfect in knowledge and wisdom."
[ PICKTHAL ] They said: Be glorified! We have no knowledge saving that which Thou hast taught us. Lo! Thou, only Thou, art the Knower, the Wise.
[ SHAKIR ] They said: Glory be to Thee! we have no knowledge but that which Thou hast taught us; surely Thou art the Knowing, the Wise.

ارشاد ہوا کہ آدم علیہ السّلام اب تم انہیں باخبر کردو. تو جب آدم علیہ السّلام نے باخبر کردیا تو خدا نے فرمایا کہ میں نے تم سے نہ کہا تھا کہ میں آسمان و زمین کے غیب کو جانتا ہوں اور جو کچھ تم ظاہر کرتے ہو یا چھپاتے ہو سب کو جانتا ہوں
[YOUSAF ALI] He said: "O Adam! Tell them their names." When he had told them, Allah said: "Did I not tell you that I know the secrets of heaven and earth, and I know what ye reveal and what ye conceal?"
[ PICKTHAL ] He said: O Adam! Inform them of their names, and when he had informed them of their names, He said: Did I not tell you that I know the secret of the heavens and the earth? And I know that which ye disclose and which ye hide.
[ SHAKIR ] He said: O Adam! inform them of their names. Then when he had informed them of their names, He said: Did I not say to you that I surely know what is ghaib in the heavens and the earth and (that) I know what you manifest and what you hide?

اور یاد کرو وہ موقع جب ہم نے ملائکہ سے کہا کہ آدم علیہ السّلام کے لئے سجدہ کرو تو ابلیس کے علاوہ سب نے سجدہ کرلیا. اس نے انکار اور غرور سے کام لیا اور کافرین میں ہو گیا
[YOUSAF ALI] And behold, We said to the angels: "Bow down to Adam" and they bowed down. Not so Iblis: he refused and was haughty: He was of those who reject Faith.
[ PICKTHAL ] And when We said unto the angels: Prostrate yourselves before Adam, they fell prostrate, all save Iblis. He demurred through pride, and so became a disbeliever.
[ SHAKIR ] And when We said to the angels: Make obeisance to Adam they did obeisance, but Iblis (did it not). He refused and he was proud, and he was one of the unbelievers.

اور ہم نے کہا کہ اے آدم علیہ السّلام! اب تم اپنی زوجہ کے ساتھ جنّت میں ساکن ہوجاؤ اور جہاں چاہو آرام سے کھاؤ صرف اس درخت کے قریب نہ جانا کہ اپنے اوپر ظلم کرنے والوں میں سے ہو جاؤ گے
[YOUSAF ALI] We said: "O Adam! dwell thou and thy wife in the Garden; and eat of the bountiful things therein as (where and when) ye will; but approach not this tree, or ye run into harm and transgression."
[ PICKTHAL ] And We said: O Adam! Dwell thou and thy wife in the Garden, and eat ye freely (of the fruits) thereof where ye will; but come not nigh this tree lest ye become wrong-doers.
[ SHAKIR ] And We said: O Adam! Dwell you and your wife in the garden and eat from it a plenteous (food) wherever you wish and do not approach this tree, for then you will be of the unjust.

فَأَزَلَّهُمَا الشَّيْطَانُ عَنْهَا فَأَخْرَجَهُمَا مِمَّا كَانَا فِيهِ ۖ وَقُلْنَا اهْبِطُوا بَعْضُكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ عَدُوٌّ ۖ وَلَكُمْ فِي الْأَرْضِ مُسْتَقَرٌّ وَمَتَاعٌ إِلَىٰ حِينٍ (36
تب شیطان نے انہیں فریب دینے کی کوشش کی اور انہیں ان نعمتوں سے باہر نکال لیا اور ہم نے کہا کہ اب تم سب زمین پر اترجاؤ وہاں ایک دوسرے کی دشمنی ہوگی اور وہیں تمہارا مرکز ہوگا اور ایک خاص وقت تک کے لئے عیش زندگانی رہے گی
[YOUSAF ALI] Then did Satan make them slip from the (garden), and get them out of the state (of felicity) in which they had been. We said: "Get ye down, all (ye people), with enmity between yourselves. On earth will be your dwelling-place and your means of livelihood - for a time."
[ PICKTHAL ] But Satan caused them to deflect therefrom and expelled them from the (happy) state in which they were; and We said: Fall down, one of you a foe unto the other! There shall be for you on earth a habitation and provision for a time.
[ SHAKIR ] But the Shaitan made them both fall from it, and caused them to depart from that (state) in which they were; and We said: Get forth, some of you being the enemies of others, and there is for you in the earth an abode and a provision for a time.

پھر آدم علیہ السّلام نے پروردگار سے کلمات کی تعلیم حاصل کی اور ان کی برکت سے خدا نے ان کی توبہ قبول کر لی کہ وہ توبہ قبول کرنے والا اور مہربان ہے
[YOUSAF ALI] Then learnt Adam from his Lord words of inspiration, and his Lord Turned towards him; for He is Oft-Returning, Most Merciful.
[ PICKTHAL ] Then Adam received from his Lord words (of revelation), and He relented toward him. Lo! He is the relenting, the Merciful.
[ SHAKIR ] Then Adam received (some) words from his Lord, so He turned to him mercifully; surely He is Oft-returning (to mercy), the Merciful.

اور ہم نے یہ بھی کہا کہ یہاں سے اتر پڑو پھر اگر ہماری طرف سے ہدایت آجائے تو جو بھی اس کا اتباع کرلے گا اس کے لئے نہ کوئی خوف ہوگا نہ حُزن
[YOUSAF ALI] We said: "Get ye down all from here; and if, as is sure, there comes to you Guidance from me, whosoever follows My guidance, on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.
[ PICKTHAL ] We said: Go down, all of you, from hence; but verily there cometh unto you from Me a guidance; and whoso followeth My guidance, there shall no fear come upon them neither shall they grieve.
[ SHAKIR ] We said: Go forth from this (state) all; so surely there will come to you a guidance from Me, then whoever follows My guidance, no fear shall come upon them, nor shall they grieve.

[ SHAKIR ] When your Lord said to the angels; Surely I am going to create a mortal from dust:

[YOUSAF ALI] "When I have fashioned him (in due proportion) and breathed into him of My spirit, fall ye down in obeisance unto him."
[ PICKTHAL ] And when I have fashioned him and breathed into him of My Spirit, then fall down before him prostrate,
[ SHAKIR ] So when I have made him complete and breathed into him of My spirit, then fall down making obeisance to him.

تو خدا نے کہا اے ابلیس تیرے لئے کیا شے مانع ہوئی کہ تو اسے سجدہ کرے جسے میں نے اپنے دست قدرت سے بنایا ہے تو نے غرور اختیار کیا یا تو واقعا بلند لوگوں میں سے ہے
[YOUSAF ALI] (Allah) said: "O Iblis! What prevents thee from prostrating thyself to one whom I have created with my hands? Art thou haughty? Or art thou one of the high (and mighty) ones?"
[ PICKTHAL ] He said: O Iblis! What hindereth thee from falling prostrate before that which I have created with both My hands? Art thou too proud or art thou of the high exalted?
[ SHAKIR ] He said: O Iblis! what prevented you that you should do obeisance to him whom I created with My two hands? Are you proud or are you of the exalted ones?

[YOUSAF ALI] (Iblis) said: "I am better than he: thou createdst me from fire, and him thou createdst from clay."
[ PICKTHAL ] He said: I am better than him. Thou createdst me of fire, whilst him Thou didst create of clay.
[ SHAKIR ] He said: I am better than he; Thou hast created me of fire, and him Thou didst create of dust.

[ SHAKIR ] He said: Then get out of it, for surely you are driven away:

[ PICKTHAL ] And lo! My curse is on thee till the Day of Judgment.
[ SHAKIR ] And surely My curse is on you to the day of judgment.

[ SHAKIR ] He said: My Lord! then respite me to the day that they are raised.

علاوہ تیرے ان بندوں کے جنہیں تو نے خالص بنالیا ہے
[YOUSAF ALI] "Except Thy Servants amongst them, sincere and purified (by Thy Grace)."

[ SHAKIR ] Except Thy servants from among them, the purified ones.
